Deep Field Setup

For deep field astrophotography I use either the Astro-Tech AT115EDT refractor (805mm/F7), or the Celestron EdgeHD 9.25 Schmidt-Cassegrain with the 0.7 reducer (1645mm/F7).

The EdgeHD 9.25 has been fitted with the Moonlite CHL 2.5" focuser to allow for auto-focusing. I've also opted for an off-axis guider in lieu of a guide scope to reduce the overall weight of the setup.

For reliable tracking, I went with the heavy-duty iOptron CEM70 equatorial mount, which is capable of carrying a 70lb payload (recommended ~40lbs max for astrophotography). My AT115EDT and EdgeHD 9.25 setups weigh approximately 20lbs and 30lbs respectively. In my experience the CEM70 has been extremely capable, guiding at 0.3-0.6 rms depending on sky conditions.

Wide Field Setup

For my wider-field shots, I use the Rokinon 135mm camera lens (for Nikon), which weighs significantly less than the telescopes. With a lighter set of equipment, I am able to run everything off of either the ZWO AM5 or the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi equatorial mounts.

With the AM5 and the Star Adventurer GTi weighing only 11lbs and 5.7 lbs respectively (the CEM70 weighs 30 lbs), I am able to easily take my entire wide field setup with me when traveling.
