A lesser-known constellation neighboring Gemini and Taurus, the Auriga constellation is visible in the northern hemisphere during the winter months. Its name is Latin for ' charioteer', associating it with various mythological beings, including Erichthonius and Myrtilus.

Located next to Auriga is the Perseus constellation, one of the larger northern constellations best known for its annual Perseid meteor shower. Named after the hero Perseus in Greek mythology, Perseus is home to a number of famous deep sky objects, including the California Nebula (NGC 1499).
